It Sounds Fine. But It Doesn’t Matter.

There’s a popular band on Spotify called Velvet Sundown.
It turns out they are fully AI-generated. Lyrics, music, name – the whole thing.
It’s technically impressive. Perfectly listenable. But when the track ends, you feel… nothing.
No backstory. No edge. No risk.
It doesn’t echo. It doesn’t stay with you.
It’s music without memory.
On the Other Side of the Spectrum?
Oasis.
Reformed (for spurious reasons – but we’ll put that to one side for now).
Fans have bought tickets costing hundreds – even thousands – of pounds. And people still scramble to buy them.
Not because the vocals will be flawless (not that they ever were). Not because the setlist is revolutionary.
But because it means something.
It’s a chance to be there.
To see something rare.
To connect with something real.
To say, “I was there.”
There’s history in it. Energy. Conflict (especially between the brothers). Bragging rights.
It matters – because it’s messy, human, and lived.
That’s the Real Divide
In an AI-saturated world, everything is starting to sound like Velvet Sundown.
Smooth. Polished. Soul-deep forgettable.
The alternative isn’t just being “non-AI.”
It’s being more ‘Gallagher’.
Not perfect – but powerful.
Not scalable – but unforgettable.
Something people will pay for, queue for, talk about.
Not because of features. Because of feeling.
The Velvet Sundown Trap
If you’re building anything – a brand, a product, a digital experience – and it feels like:
- Something AI could have generated
- Something that ticks the boxes but doesn’t stir anything
- Something that sounds right but lands flat
Then you’re in trouble.
Because nobody lines up for plausible.
They line up for resonant.
They pay for story.
They share moments.
Build Like It’s Worth Remembering
You don’t have to be Oasis. Even if you already have a bucket hat.
But you do have to decide which side of the line you’re on:
- Disposable or desirable?
- Predictable or personal?
- Generated or grounded?
If what you’re creating doesn’t give people something to feel, something to remember, or something to tell their peers about…
Then it’s just another Velvet Sundown track: fine. But forgettable.
And that’s no way to build anything that lasts r kid.
